Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Blepharoplasty is especially helpful for patients with excess skin of the upper eyelids "hooding", excess wrinkling of the periorbital skin, or bagginess of the lower lids. This surgery is indicated for patients who just want to see better as well as those who wish to have a more "rested" and youthful appearance. Blepharoplasty is accomplished by the removal of excess skin of the upper and lower eyelids, and resuspension and re-draping of the periorbital fat and soft tissues. Removal of fat may also be performed to reduce puffiness of the eyelids, and frequently fat is grafted to the lids to camouflage puffy areas to enhance the loss of volume (hollow eyes) that occurs with age, and possibly to improve darkened skin. Not everyone is a good or safe candidate for blepharoplasty surgery. Patients who have severe dryness of the eyes, proptosis (bulging eyes), or significant lid laxity may not be candidates for surgery.
